United Poultry Concerns President Karen Davis Presents “The Social and Secret Life of Chickens: A Lecture with Visuals & a Book-Signing” in New York City , December 30, 2009

Synopsis:

Karen Davis’ experience with chickens for more than twenty years has shown her that chickens are conscious and emotional beings with adaptable sociability and a range of intentions and personalities. She will relate her personal stories about the chickens at the sanctuary to how chickens are treated in factory farming and live poultry markets.

Immediately following her talk, Karen will sign copies of her book Prisoned Chickens, Poisoned Eggs: An Inside Look at the Modern Poultry Industry (New Edition 2009).

The Mid-Manhattan Library is the central circulating library of The New York Public Library system. Positioned across the street from the central research library, The Mid-Manhattan Library offers cultural and informational programs providing a forum for free and open access to new ideas.

Karen Davis, PhD is the president and founder of United Poultry Concerns, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the compassionate and respectful treatment of domestic fowl. She’s the editor of UPC’s quarterly magazine Poultry Press and the author of several books including Prisoned Chickens, Poisoned Eggs: An Inside Look at the Modern Poultry Industry (Book Publishing Co., 2009), The Holocaust and the Henmaid’s Tale (Lantern Books, 2005), and More Than a Meal: The Turkey in History, Myth, Ritual, and Reality (Lantern Books, 2001). Karen maintains a sanctuary for chickens, turkeys and ducks on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

Yes, one might think initially it is pretty cute. Except, one wouldn’t like it if he were the one being used for “science”.

Anaida Krok, founder and president of The Good Conduct Society, an organization she leads for the preservation of birds, today congratulated the Black Throated Green Warblers for safely bringing down the US AIRWAYS Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. The 155 passengers and crew were quickly rescued with only a few minor injuries.

“There are 48 million Peeping Toms with binoculars seeking vicarious sexual pleasure, posing as Bird Watchers,” she added. “Their sordid satisfaction must be halted immediately, otherwise birds will continue their protest by invading jet engines and forcing them to land shortly after takeoff.”

The Good Conduct Society has petitioned Congress to pass strict laws that would curtail Bird Watchers’ from pursuing their perverted passion. Stiff fines will help deter such criminal activities and Ms. Krok has written President-elect Barack Obama to help support her cause.

Dear friends and supporters,

At this moment I would like to share with you the political agenda of the Good Conduct Society. I personally wrote a letter to President-elect Obama in which I encourage him to take measures to protect the birds. Yes, there are other problems, we all know that. But does it mean that bankers and newspapers who caused their own demise hurt more than birds who are defenseless against human barbarity?

In my letter to Obama I urge Mr. President-elect as well as Congress to create a law that protects our bird population, now considered “endangered species.” They are an integral part of our planet that needs to be preserved immediately. Otherwise their role in nature, if extinguished by horny bird watchers, will upset and even destroy the chain of animal behavior presently in peril from hunters, voyeurs and enslaved in cages. All zoos, and especially bird sanctuaries, should release their captives and return them to nature’s habitat. Therefore, a Federal Law must be passed by Congress that contains the following provisions:

1. Bird watchers must cease and desist from watching birds cohabitate or face a fine of $250 for the first offense; $750 for the second offense; $1,000 for the third offense and a mandatory jail sentence of one year and a day in a Federal Prison.

2. Keeping birds in home cages are to be forbidden unless for preservation. They must be set free or the kidnappers will be subjected to penalties as stated in #1.

3. Pet stores must not engage in selling birds and will have 30 days in which to release them or the store owner will be fined as in #1.

4.Bird predators, such as Bird Watchers, who have been fined and/or convicted, will be shamed on a website sponsored by U.S. Government

5. Citizens who report violations of the above regulations will be rewarded with payments up to $2,500 for their vigilance and service to their country.

I know that Good Conduct Society has followers amongst both parties, and I respect that, but personally, I am absolutely elated that John McCain who IS an admitted birdwatcher did not become president of the United States. What a relief. 

I hope the democrats will appropriately address the issue of bird porn!

That’s the “disabled” guy I blogged about before!!! 

He WAS making fun of me, I was right! And they misspelled my name so cleverly, ha-ha-ha! Or may be they simply didn’t know how to spell it? Hm…

Well make fun all you want, we ARE standing up for the birds!

CHECK OUT WHAT ELSE THEY ARE MAKING FUN OF (just found it and still in shock).  Political views may vary but this made me cringe. No, watch it!

This was my first trip to London and people embraced me and my campaign with enthusiastic fervor. Good Conduct Society members in the UK assisted me with an initial protest to STOP BIRD PORN in Hyde Park at Speakers’ Corner. As I stood on a soapbox surrounded by dozens of people, mostly tourists, Ben and Emily passed out hundreds of flyers explaining our mission to brand Bird Watchers as voyeurs. And I urged the growing crowd  of onlookers to LEAVE THE BIRDS ALONE! It doesn’t take a space scientist or member of MENSA to realize that birds do not appreciate PEEPING TOMS when they are engaged in lovemaking.

I found London to be a charming city with friendly people. On the downside, hotels are expensive, the phones don’t work well and bathtubs were built for midgets. In fact, everything is small in Great Britain. It is a tiny country that has to treasure every inch of space. There are rows of houses along small winding streets, many cobblestone ones, that are probably occupied by Lilliputians. Each home has a chimney because burning wood is cheaper than buying oil for heat.

Bird Watching has been a passionate pursuit in the British Isles for centuries. I suspect that aspect of vicarious sexual gratification by their citizens has maintained necessary population control. So, sewing your seeds in the woods helps keep the kids away. There just isn’t enough space.  Nevertheless, birds have feelings too and would like to fuck without being spied upon by a lot of horny Brits who could just as well masturbate at home.

Altogether I wish our former captors could just LEAVE THE BIRDS ALONE!

Now, took at that woman’s face! IS SHE A BIRD WATCHER?
